Emergencies: Preparedness

Information on emergency water storage and treatment is available from the following sites: Emergency Disinfection of Drinking Water (US EPA); Food and Water in an Emergency (US FEMA).

Visit the Utah Division of Emergency Services and Homeland Security home page for more information on disaster preparedness.

One convenient way to store emergency water is to simply purchase high quality bottled water. Note the expiration date for the product you buy. Most bottled water has a shelf life of about a year. One gallon, per person, per day is recommended. Store the bottles away from any source of fumes or odors.

Get more information on how to report an emergency to the Division of Drinking Water.

Note: Utah's public drinking water suppliers are encouraged to develop emergency response plans. For more information see Emergency Response Guidebook.
